A single bronze Conquistador Style stirrup with peacock feather and shell design. The two triangular holes in the bottom are original and were used for drainage, as water had a habit of accumulating inside.
It is in excellent vintage condition and measures 8 1/2" x 4 7/8".
Nobody is sure where these come from but they are not from the 1600's. Internet speculation puts them between the Late Victorian (c.1890) and Late Art Deco (c. 1930) eras. It is thought they were developed in South America, not Spain, and possibly made from melted church bells and cannons. Apparently "conquistador" literally translates to "charming" and they were intended as romanticized fantasy items.
It makes an excellent and charming wall pocket.
